So Very Thankful!

What a wonderful time we had in November learning all about Thanksgiving history and traditions and discussing the things we are thankful for!

First we learned about the Pilgrims' voyage to America and their first year in Plymouth with the Native Americans. We made Thanksgiving bracelets to help us retell the story, each bead represented a different part of their journey.

We learned about the Native Americans and the Pilgrims and how they lived their lives in Plymouth Town.  We learned about the chores the children helped with, tending crops, collecting fire wood, and watching animals, we also learned about the games they played, stick ball and nine pin.  We enjoyed learning about the written symbols the Native Americans used and had fun decorating our vests and headbands for the Feast!

During our Thanksgiving preparation we took time to think of all we are thankful for, friends, family, teachers, and the workers who help at our school.  We worked with PreK A to make cards for all of the staff and teachers at HSS that help us PreK kids, we are very thankful for them!

You can't have Thanksgiving without talking about Turkey!  After reading the story Turkey Trouble, where the turkey tries on different disguises to avoid being the main meal, we thought of other things we could eat instead of turkey on Thanksgiving Day.  Our turkeys say "Save a turkey, eat more..." corn, alfredo, pizza, and other fun alternatives!

We also made adorable hand print place mats with Turkeys.  I hope they were a fun addition to your Thanksgiving table!

Our last Turkey activity was counting turkey feathers!  We identified the number written on the turkey's belly then colored the correct number of feathers on his body.  Who knew math could be so fun!

We ended our Thanksgiving unit with a Feast!  We sang a cute Thanksgiving song, prayed, and shared a meal together.  It was so fun seeing everyone share time with friends and family!

I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving Break with your little ones just as much as I enjoyed my break with my two little Turkeys at home!

Bonus:
Here are a few pictures of us enjoying the SNOW we had in November!  What a fun surprise before Thanksgiving!
