My Special Letter

I am so sorry for the late post!  We had a few friends who needed to finish projects from last week and their artwork was too cute to miss the blog!

We have officially welcomed September and the season of fall in PreK B!
This month we will be talking all about apples so our first thing to do was to decorate our windows with beautiful "stained glass" tissue paper apple slices.

All month long we will be cooking different apple recipes with the ingredients your children brought to school.  The first apple treat of the month was apple nachos, yum!

Last week we talked all about being a good friend and how we should treat our friends at school.  One day during religion we made a PreK B Friend Book with Mrs. Straessle that has all of our classmates and teachers in it.  This is now a treasured book in our classroom library!

Speaking of friends, we made some new 4th grade friends last week!  4B came to read to us for the first time during our story time.  Both 4th grade classes will come and read to us once a month and we can't wait to meet our 4A friends next week!

Last week we learned all about circles.  We had tons of fun tracing, coloring, drawing, and playing games on the smart board with circles!  Here we identified different objects that are circles, if our answer was correct the object disappeared.  Magic!

Another fun circle activity we completed was going on a circle hunt around our classroom.  We all did a wonderful job finding lots of circles in our room!

The class' favorite circle craft of the week was making our circle caterpillars!  We all did an excellent job on our first cut and paste craft!

Later in the week we talked about our special letter, the first letter in our first name.  To help us get ready to share our special letters, and to reinforce the shape of the week, we painted our names with circle paint dotters!  (You can see our finished names in the pictures above with the caterpillars.)

Each Hoot got to share their special letter with the class and tell all about what they used to decorate their special letter.  Thank you so much for your assistance with this project!  All of the letters turned out wonderful and they will be beautiful decorations in our classroom for the remainder of the year.

In addition to cutting and pasting for the first time this year, we also got to watercolor for the first time!  I bet you can guess what we painted, our special letter!

We love our special letter!

The "firsts" just kept adding up in PreK!  One of those firsts was our first priest visit with Father Tom! Father Tom read a story to both PreK classes and asked us all about our summer vacations.  We can't wait to meet Father Erik in a few weeks!

We recognized our first Hoot of the Week last week, Andrew!  All week Andrew shared things with us that are special to him: toys, pictures, books, and a special A snack!

We also celebrated our first Hoot birthday!  Sweet Miss Josie turned 5 and shared yummy cupcakes with us.  Happy Birthday, Josie!!!

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing extended holiday with friends and family.  It has been so fun to hear all of the stories the kids have shared!

Until next time!  -Mrs. Baker
