Happy Halloween, Pumpkin!

Happy Halloween from the little "pumpkins" of PreK B!

Leading up to Halloween we read many silly books about the ghouls, goblins, and monsters that come out to Trick or Treat on Halloween.  Our favorite book was Go Away, Big Green Monster!

The Big Green Monster has...

Two yellow eyes, a long, bluish, greenish nose,

a big red mouth with sharp white teeth,

two little squiggly ears, and scraggly purple hair.

We told the Big Green Monster to GO AWAY! and not to come back until we said so!

Another part of our Halloween preparation was learning all about pumpkins!
We learned about the pumpkin's life cycle.   We learned that pumpkins are a fruit and begin as seeds.  After they sprout and grow into a vine they flower.  The flower is what then grows into a pumpkin on the ground.

We learned about the many different kinds of pumpkins and that there are different pumpkins for eating and for carving jack-o-lanterns.  We learned that pumpkins can be little and fit in the palm of our hands or can grow big enough to make a one man boat out of!  Did you know pumpkins can even float!?

After learning all of these cool things about pumpkins we carved our very own classroom jack-o-lantern!  We loved getting to see and touch all of the seeds, pulp, and flesh of the pumpkin in real life.

We decided to carve a happy vampire jack-o-lantern!

Look at all of our silly pumpkins!

Another fun pumpkin activity we completed was "baking" a pumpkin cake in our crock pot!

We started with one box of spice cake mix.

Next, we added in one can of pumpkin puree.

Then we added in 6oz of apple sauce and three eggs.

Our final ingredient to add was a dash of pumpkin pie spice before mixing everything together.

We let the cake bake for 3 hours and after it was cooked we topped it with yummy cream cheese icing.  All of the kids definitely approved of our delicious cake!

The day before the PreK Pumpkin Hunt we decorated our own pumpkin shirts!  The fun pumpkins had just as much personality as our adorable friends!

On the day of the Pumpkin Hunt we enjoyed fun jack-o-lantern fruit cups before we headed over to the Benedict House.

At the Benedict House we made fun masks,

created cute Halloween kitten and puppy magnets,

 played bingo,

and hunted for pumpkins!

Thank you to all of our parents for sending pumpkins and snacks and working the different stations and making our Pumpkin Hunt a success!

The Three Little Pigs

While learning about the number 3 we took time to read the story of The Three Little Pigs and completed a STEM building activity!

Just like the 3 little pigs in our story our  first group of "pigs" built a house of straw.

Our second group of "pigs" built a house of sticks.

And our third group of "pigs" built a house of bricks.

Our resident Big Bad Wolf, Mrs. Milton, put the "pigs" building skills to the test!

The house of straw blew away.

The house of sticks fell down.

But the house of bricks stood firm!

Look at this adorable group of "piggies"!
